A Week of With

July 13, 2018
On Monday morning, just hours before the team was supposed to arrive, I sat down to have some quiet time with the Lord.  No sooner had I asked him for a word for the week than I felt the spirit impress “with” on my heart. What may seem like an odd and unrelated word to an outsider, I knew exactly what He meant.  Rewind twenty four hours prior when I was sitting on the plane from Indy to Houston reading Bob Goff’s new book Everybody Always. In it, Bob talks about how the Bible can be summed up in one word – with.  God so desires a relationship with us, and He put us on this earth with each other to share his love.  God was telling me just to be with – with Him, with the team, and with the locals.  I was to spend time with the people in…

Thoughts while rebuilding

March 16, 2018
Rosa wrote this poem after a day of ministry working to tear out and rebuild the floor of Sylvester and Maria’s home.   21635 (the title of this poem) I have wood dust, everywhere I hear the roaring of many tools in the back ground As I wait for instructions I look down at the rubble that used to be a supporting floor I find two hair beads I imagine Maria doing the girl’s hair in many skinny braids and putting these beads on the end In my head everything disintegrates Piece by piece it all falls out of itself like this home that is now a trailer   I picture the kids running around on what used to be a floor playing tag How the rubble that used to be the walls held their laughs and cries How the water held it’s spot for days like I ain’t goin no wh…

The Poetry Won’t Come

March 16, 2018
This poem was shared by Justin at a debrief after ministering at the home of a family that lost everything in Hurricane Harvey flooding.     The Poetry won’t come Persistent Resolve …Maybe it’s the Friends I’ve more deeply come to know, Or maybe the work That tires these bones. Despite all the options The Poetry won’t come… But it always does in it’s time. When I need it. And I need it… But Not the idea of it. Not for the open mics, Or to impress the girl. But to feed my very soul. To draw water from the well Of Creativity, dug by my Father. To imagine and create, like my Father. To give Love like my Father, Because I need Him That living connection That spans all distance and direction We need him The Love in the chaos The Savior of S…

When Your Plans Change

October 24, 2016
God Called several “Omaha’s” on us today.  This is when Paton Manning called a play but changes it in the middle of the down.  Today it rained most of the day. We walked to a school of 200 kids and just found 8 kids there. John told us how God helped him raise money to start this school. Then we walked down the hill to see a piece of land that he had to build new and bigger school building. We then went to Robert’s house to build him a new roof, but here God called another “Omaha” on us.  We were told that the wall that was rebuilt after the earthquake was too weak and it needed to be torn down and rebuilt so our plans changed (as does happens on most mission trips). So we started to remove a small portion of an old wall and dig a deep hole for one of the new pos…
